International Women’s Day!

International Women’s Day on March 8th offered an opportunity to reflect on the remarkable progress made by women throughout history and to look forward to the future. To commemorate this day, we at Midtown Makers on Church Street Ballymena organized a special event from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm, inviting women from our community to join us in celebrating the outstanding achievements of women from the past, present, and future.
We enjoyed a delightful gathering filled with camaraderie, inspiration, and, of course, delicious treats! There was plenty of tea and coffee, slices of cake, and engaging conversations with like-minded women.
Supporting a Worthy Cause:
Alongside celebrating women’s achievements, we were proud to support an important cause during this event. We raised funds for Action Cancer’s Breast Screening Service through a raffle of handmade gifts. Participants in the raffle not only contributed to this excellent charity but also helped ensure accessible breast screening services for women in need. Together, they made a difference by supporting each other in our collective journey towards a brighter, more equitable future. We would like to thank everyone who donated on the day. We raised £80.00.
Meeting Our Makers:
On that day, customers had the opportunity to meet some of our talented Makers, who showcased their skills that make them a part of Midtown Makers. Artists and Crafters included Sandra Streeter - Textile Artist who held a workshop on visible mending; showing participants how to upcycle clothing and fabrics with simple stitching. Shelley Steele - Felting Artist demonstrated her technique of how to make a wet felted bowl and enjoyed chatting to customers. Whilst Julie Pollock showcased her amazing wire wrapped jewellery and telling her story to visitors.
